Just installed the ATC and cannot get it to work. There is a flashing green light inside the PE. Anyone know what that would mean? I sent an email to support but haven’t heard back yet.
There are electronics in there, and it’s normal. Mine will be solid red and green also.
For the problems you’re experiencing, we’re looking through a straw at the symptom. It’s hard to diagnose without more information. The best way is a video uploaded to YouTube set to unlisted where you demonstrate the symptom and walk us through basic setup. Theres a lot that can be wrong from setup to implimentation to education to (in the rare case) material craftsmanship, and we can’t know what the issue is without the “how”
Here’s a video showing the setup. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/iJlceRRZuKw
Issue is I can’t trigger a tool change. The MTC button never lights up. Also triggering it through software doesn’t work. Not sure where the problem is.
Just found that if I hold down the MTC button I see both a green and red flashing light inside the PE. When the MTC button is released I only see a green flashing light.
That sounds normal. My pe is inconvenient to compare
In addition/summary to the above:
If your on the F1 screen and you invert output 7 by pressing spacebar, what happens? Air should come out of the spindle, at which time the guage on the PE would come alive. Hit spacebar to turn it off. If this is the case, your at least able to program tool locations and use it.
Also it doesn’t appear that the vfd is on. Last i knew it didn’t matter, but something might have changed where that changed.
It’s not the first time this has happened, but could you try switching the cable in the run port to the modbus port on the vfd. If that doesn’t illuminate the light (assuming the vfd is not commanding rpm and is in a safe state) it’s possible the switch is bad. Switch the cable back unless the mtc button illuminated.
I’m not home so i can’t verify, but i don’t think set spindle clamp would activate the pe. It might, but i don’t know 100%. I do know if there is a failure to unload or load resulting in a axis motor alarm you have to set it to off (i have my machine require homing in the event)
Thanks for your help Chris.
Switching the cable in the run port to modbus port on the VFD worked. Sort of.
Inverting output 7 did nothing. After switching the cable from run to modbus inverting output 7 worked. Also, triggering a tool change through the masso controller now worked. The MTC button still never lights up. The light inside the PE is now solid green.
I received this VFD Nov 2023. My ATC is an upgrade using my old VFD. They confirmed that the VFD is version 5 and should work.
So now it’s working except for the MTC button which never lights up.
Ok. We’ll that’s mostly good. Sounds like a rare but not impossible occurrence where run and modbus were switched.
The mtc button not lighting up, could be that the switch is bad. I don’t know the current validation procedures, but i know when i worked there, they would test x # from a batch, but not 100% test rate. Things might have changed.
I got home and checked my machine and yes, set clamp acts the same as mtc, but just takes longer compared to inverting output 7.
V5 was made for atc which is why getting an upgrade includes the vfd v5 upgrade.
I’ll have a red light normally thru the honey comb and a green light when the solenoid is opened.
To check the switch, if you have a multimeter, set it to ohms and put the leads as pictured, and push the mtc button. The notch is up if it’s hard to tell
