Pokeys57CNC Wiring to Spindle System

I’ve purchased the 2.2k Spindle System and have a Pokeys57CNC breakout board running with Mach 4 and MachPro. Previously I used an XSY-AT1 VFD, which I was able to control with this BOB, both forward and reverse with Mach 4 and MachPro.

I was hoping that the wiring to the PwnCNC VFD would be straight forward, and likely it is, but I’ve yet to figure it out.

Anyone here in the forum have a Pokeys57CNC and wired it successfully for both CW and CWW?

On the Pokeys, I used Relay 1 and Relay 2 to send signals for CW/CCW using a common COM wire to the VFD for the Relays. Relay 1 was wired to X4 (CW) and Relay 2 was wired to X5 (CWW) - assuming I’ve remembered correctly. Pin 17 and GNDi were wired to the VL1 and COM ports respectively for the 0-10v PMW signal. All operated as expected.

I’ve wired the PMW (Red) wire to pin 17 on the BOB, and GND (Black) to GNDi on the BOB. The COM (White) is wired to both Relays, while FWD (Yellow) is wired to Relay 1, and REV (Green) is wired to Relay 2. Other (Orange) is not used.

No changes were made in Mach 4 for the outputs, assuming that it should work with the same output settings.

When sending an S3000 M03 command, or using the GUI for Spindle Forward or Spindle Reverse, I don’t get any rotation on the Spindle. On the VFD LCD, I do see the RPMs change, and the FWD LED does appear to be on.

There is also SSR1 and SSR2 relays on the BOB that I’ve tried as well. But the results are the same.

Any tips would be appreciated. I’ve yet to reach out to Support, as I know they will respond when they can, but hoping that there is a forum member with some experience with this BOB.

Note that it does work in Manual mode. So as far as correct power and wiring it does work as expected from the keypad on the VFD.

For anyone who might want to get a Pokeys57CNC working with the PwnCNC Spindle Kit, I did finally get it working.

The FWD (Yellow) and REV (Green) wires connect to Relay 1 (Pin 3) and Relay 2 (Pin 1) respectively, and the COM (White) to the Relay pins 2 & 4.

The 0-10v (Red) wire is connected to Pin 17, and the GND (Black) wire to pin either GNDi (1 or 4) on the Galvanically Isolated I/O connector. The Orange Wire is not used.

In Mach 4 Control Configuration, I set the Spindle FWD to use the Pokeys “PE” device. Mine happens to be name Wall-E, so Wall-E PE is selected. The outputs used are selected for each of them as wired, e.g., Relay 1 and Relay 2:

With those settings configured, I had to then make the following changes to the VFD settings:

P0.0.03 = 1 (Terminal Control) Page 27 of VFD Manual

P0.0.04 = 3 (External Terminal VF1 Reference) Page 27 of VFD Manual

I set these values based on the info found in the VFD Default Programming document found here: Spindle System - VFD Default Programming - PwnCNC Some testing was required before I settled on these values.

With these settings, I can now issue M3 or M4 commands, with Sxxxx for FWD or REV respectively from MDI, or from Spindle FWD or Spindle REV buttons I have set up in the Mach 4 or Mach Pro user interfaces.
