Movable Tool Slide

I’m working on mutiple fronts right now, this is the moving tool rack to slide the tools into the tool change area and out again so i don’t have to give up any real estate on the spoilboard…

Nice, I like the simple design. Once all set up it should be bullet-proof.

I’ll probably steal this setup in the future.

This is nearly exactly what I am going to do. The exception for me is that I am putting my linear bearing system up on risers, so that I can fit a full sheet under it if I need to do tiling.
I am also going to use the leftover Z-motor I have from replacing my Z-axis motor with the Z-motor with a break.
I then plan to plug it into my Masso under the A-axis on the controller, so I can control positioning. (as opposed to your pneumatic cylinder)
Any chance you have, or know where to get, the slide out tool holders, or at least the print file? I didn’t see them for sale @ PWNCNC.

I designed those in sketchup and printed them myself. But you can buy Iso 20 clips on Amazon fairly cheaply…

Yeah, i borrowed heavily myself on the concept. Waiting on some flow regulators to arrive from Amazon. The cylinder throws the tools out now when it enters the change area. It was pretty startling the first time i activated it. It was an eight tool launch.

I’ve got similar pneumatic cylinders for use as pop-up locating pins, so I know how hard they can hit. I’ve also got a full complement of valves sitting in my parts box to play with deployment and retraction speeds

Once everything is going, I’m also thinking of using the double-shaft cylinder models for work-holding…

Yes, I’m considering the possibilities of clamping with this also…but I’ve got to solve the dust hood dilemma first🤫

Any update on your progress with this setup? Would be awesome to see a demo video

Progress video, you should be able to zoom in on this to see more detail…far from done with this, but had to run some production jobs. The good news is it ran through 5 sheets with no issues…more to come.

Parts of the system, 3d printed most of these. Designed this in Sketchup.

Awesome work man! I am wondering if it is possible to have it higher to facilitate being able to tile full sheets of plywood.

Yes, rhat is possible, but as you can see I’m mounted on a concrete wall. So i never chased that option.

Understandable. I built my table with extra space at the rear like yours with the anticipation of doing exactly what you are and also caster to be able to pull out from the wall when necessary for tiling full sheets of plywood for cabinets etc

I see that during the tool change you are able to get the spindle to move both down and back. I had read previously someone else say that they didn’t think the masso would support this movement for the tool change so that is awesome!

I wrote about fork movements in the the KB’s

as well as here

Not sure if you caught this, but I’m using the Masso 5.100b beta software. This has options not available in the current version.
The tradeoff is you have to put up with bugs in the beta software, not too terribly bad…

Okay my bad I missed that. I haven’t upgraded yet and wasn’t aware that was one of the upgrades. That’s good news! What bugs have you encountered?

File transfers have resulted in errant moves on 2 occasions. You have to be diligent and observant when running from the beta. But the good outweighs the bugs.

Any update on this? I’d like to build something myself and would love to get some specifics from you if possible

What kind of information do you need?
