Folding workspace

I found this video last night and was in awe. I thought “that looks like a plan!” and realized today that there’s an ATC being added to the profile.

@Chris, I see from 1F threads you’ve thought some about about the workspace problem. Anything you can share about it in the context that includes the ATC?

Cheers, Brian

I don’t recall what I said there that’s relevant.

It’s always been 1Fs position that the elite shouldn’t be used in any other orientation other than horizontal. I believe it’ll cause false positive motor errors, especially with atc. It’s not a light motor.

Daniel’s woodworker was at WorkbenchCon, and we took the spindle, z plate, and the x off (probably didn’t need up to remove the z plate) them unhooked masso and wheeled it to the elevator to the trailer.

As situation dictates and reinforcement permits you can store it high. I wouldn’t advise vertical storage as it’ll get tiresome setting up very fast between holders placement & removal, masso removal and plugging & unplugging, then anything else you disconnect, power cables, air / water lines.

IMO, there comes a point where: A. The building your cnc is in becomes the enclosure, and B. Your cnc earns its footprint like a workbench or table saw

Hah! Great points, thanks!!

I have a one-car garage earmarked for the shop. I don’t want to operate the CNC anything but level and stable — storing it is another question. It’s roughly 200 cubic feet of space when the ceiling height is factored, so it irks me.

But yeah, if it’s running all the time, all that work for a storage mechanism is wasted because it’s never used.

200 sq ft? I doubt it’s cubic, as that is a closet, not a garage.

I’m in a 2 car (it is deep, like 25’) and most of my tools are on the same half (jet equipment and radial arm saw excluded) but my 30"×96" work bench, 24"×60" tool chest, 14" bandsaw, benchtop tablesaw and foreman are all on the same half of the garage with room to spare. It’s not a lot of room, but it’s all on what you have and how you use it. My belief is the cnc should be self contained with the exception of power, so pulling power wires and i can roll it out into the driveway for a garage/shop deep cleaning without disconnecting anything else
