I recently picked up the Masso conversion kit for my Shapeoko 5 Pro and I’m curious if anyone has installed this yet and, if so, how long did the process take?
I’ve got a few projects I’m working on, but I’d prefer to retire the laptop that’s running my CNC sooner rather than later (1/3 of the keys don’t work due to an MDF dust incident).
I would recommend not having anything time sensitive to complete and allocate a full day to doing it. Murphy likes to spoil those plans. You’re removing everything that is not the cnc frame and replacing it.
It would probably take me 3hrs to install it… but I designed the kit. I’d probably say for customers it’ll take about 4-6hours at a minimum.
The toughest things will be the mechanical solutions you may need to solve during the installation.
This is like changing the motor in a car. There is always little challenges that need to be solved and depending on how you solve them it can take few minutes to longer.
When i first installed my S5P’s conversion kit it took me several days. But i was obsessing over every little detail. Designing cable chain attachments, making the cables as I went, adjusting things, etc.
Developing a product always takes a long time. But with all that obsession done… installing a finished product shouldn’t take all that long.
I’m sorry i can’t be any more clear. I’m edge-of-my-seat waiting to hear about customer experiences installing the conversion kit. It’s one thing when the developer of the product does it but it’s a whole other when customers get their hands on the product.
Thus i am very interested in feedback of everyone’s experiences. I’ll be on the lookout for ways i can make this simpler and easier.
