@Daniel I purchased the 80mm 2.2kw water cooled spindle and vfd system and just want to double check the wiring for the modbus connection to the Altmill Super longboard I know exactly where the red and black wire go - in the upper left corner of the board. But what do i do with the shield wire (at least I think it’s just the shielding around the cable) that protrude out of the cable. If its not needed why go to the trouble of twisting it up and why not just cut it? Or does this go to ground someplace or do I just leave it suspended in the box like in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcaWDZvkHxM&t=6s&ab_channel=PwnCNC
For those folks who are struggling with EMI issues (and you know who you are).. hooking up the “shield drain” is vital.
The shielding is good at helping prevent EMI from interfering with the inner core wires, however the interference it picks up has to be drained off to properly prevent it from affecting your inner cores.
Typically people will attach this to a ground pin somewhere.
To start off with… i’d recommend taping it back for now. If you start running into any sort of odd behavior, then you’ll hook the drain up to ground to see if the interference is traced back to this particular wire.
