I’m still waiting for my spindle to arrive but I notice that nearly all the folks on youtube have their tools hanging out much longer than necessary. Even when there is plenty of Z travel. Is this due to the depth that the tool is able to be inserted into the spindle? Is it just inexperience? It makes me cringe when I see a 1/4" bit hanging out 2 1/2". Can someone give me a measured depth?
edit… I bought the 1.5kw 80mm in case there is a difference
The manufacturer dictates how much of the bit must be sticking out, but typically it’s about an inch needs to be in the collet, you can always do more until youre putting cutters in the collet.
