I am very disappointed to see that Onefinity has begun cleansing their official forum by editing any post that references PWNCNC, and removing reference to PWNCNC, and even substituting in “Redline” in some cases.
I love my Onefinity Elite machine, but also love my PWNCNC spindle kit.
This type of censorship / forum cleansing looks very bad on Onefinity.
Of course my post on their forum calling out this behaviour was promptly deleted.
@BManCan I’m similarly disappointed. I visited their forum today to find that four of my posts had been edited by Onefinity Support to remove “PwnCNC”. I’m shocked to hear that you had posts where PwnCNC was replaced with Redline! My post about the conduct was also deleted.
I’ve decided I’m going to put my energy into the PwnCNC community forum. I look forward to hearing about The Dominator’s pricing and availability. Maybe I’ll upgrade.
Update:
I think their purge is complete. Earlier today I got a couple dozen “PwnCNC” results when searching the Onefinity forum. Some of them were @pwncnc. Now I get zero.
Currently there are 33 “pwn cnc”, it will be interesting to see how that number changes.
thats just wrong on so many levels… why dont they just write their own reviews and attribute it to you?
Oh, must be the competition from PwnCNC then. Of course, it is their ball and they can take it home any time they like. The open cooperative model of communication and the helpful commentaries are one reason to love PwnCNC. The great product line and continuous development is another.
Censorship in any form is born out of fear and the desire to control the things that people consider and do. That sort of control is undesirable, unrealistic and unwarranted. Onefinity have done irreparable harm to their own professional reputation by following the route to stop people considering all options and thinking for themselves. Strike three!
I want to thank you all for your support and investment in our forum. It is my promise to keep this forum a platform agnostic place. If someone else has a better product… recommend them here… i will not filter the post. I might ask why their product is better so i can work to improve our product and make it more competitive.
But know that this is absolutely a safe place to discuss any brand you wish.
Hey all,
over 60 posts of mine censored/edited at the Onefinity forum. Many lost their meaning this way.
A really bad style from Onefinity. Doing such things is really a no-go. Especially doing it this way, where the original meaning and intent of the authors are altered.
Again, they seem not to think that this may harm them.
It’s like they think that if Daniel is offering a similar product to what they do offer too now, will hurt them more than what this massive censorship and editing operation can hurt them.
I am glad to see that I am not the only one extremely disappointed by this censorship, and I agree completely that many cases now exist where the original intent of the post is significantly changed.
Not sure who from Onefinity thought this was an acceptable behaviour.
I’ve created a repository of screenshots in an effort to preserve the original posts. I focused on the posts where pwn was changed to redline. However, I also added several posts where pwn was removed.
I really hope Onefinity realizes the poor decision that they made and owns up to it with an actual apology to the community. Not holding my breath, although I truly thought Onefinity had a better grasp on the importance of integrity and community relations.
Hey Eriz,
I regularly downloaded an archive of all my posts (see User page → Preferences → Request archive), so I lost nothing. I can publish all my posts in original version on my website, if I want. I could even show exactly all modifications OnefinityCNC made today.
I think if people don’t want to accept such behaviour, they should find together on a public place in the www and tell it so. All together. Or more, simply stop posting there. And no, social media and closed groups are no public places in the www. Once there was Usenet… but people forgot what public internet was…
I agree. I’ve said many times, I love the Onefinity product; but, I really don’t care for the attitude displayed by the company…particularly towards their customers. I absolutely love the customer-focused character of PWN CNC and plan to give them as much of my business as possible.
Wow! Oh Canada… Where this type of thing is acceptable I suppose.
Definitely a bad look and gives me pause when considering my next purchase/upgrades. I was toying with the idea of their rotary but I know there are other options available. I tend to go with what will work best for my situation/systems and user reviews/experience when choosing products. The CNC Community has always been pretty cooperative and harmonious. I wonder if Redline pushed for this behavior. It is very unfortunate.
I will be sending them my thoughts and I encourage others to do the same.
And I’m not suggesting guerilla tactics but curious if a flood of posts on their forum with the title PWNCNC would be attention getting or just deleted by a bot.
@Oseanmc
Sean, I don’t think Onefinity (Kirbre) cares all that much what their customers think. They believe they can treat their customers and their partners however they wish and nobody will bother to hold them to task for it.
I know if I didn’t have so much invested in the machine; I would DEFINITELY switch over to PWNCNC’s offering.
So, I guess they’re right after all ![]()
Jay, you are probably correct, sorry to say.
I fired off an email anyways…
"I am a Onfinity forum member and 1F owner. I just found out from others in the community that the 1F Forum has had posts referring to PWNCNC have been deleted or changed to read Redline. I’m not entirely sure who came up with that idea or if there was some outside pressure from a partner vendor but I will tell you it is a very bad look. I have always spoken highly of Onefinity when in forums and in person with people interested in joining the CNC community. This definitely changes that! This also will have an effect on where I spend my dollhairs going forward. I have been eyeing the rotary axis for a while now but waiting for the official 1F version to come out. But now I will look elsewhere.
The CNC community has lots of small vendors offering many different add on components and feature to make the experience better. Onefinity, don’t become the “Apple” of the CNC community!"
Sincerely,
Sean McNeely
At the end of the day I will let my customer experience determine how I spend my money.
To that point, I have never had anything but exemplary customer service from Daniel and his team at PWNCNC. Let’s support them however we can.
Jay
Hey all,
my opinion was always: “If you post in a forum run by a manufacturer, this is not a place where you should expect free speech guaranteed. A businessman does not need to tolerate whatever the customers write on his forum, so customers should expect that such a forum will not leave everything that the customers posted untouched or undeleted. It’s the businessman’s right to control how they present themselves on their www site.”
The only two things the businessman should not forget, is 1. the way the customer feels if he/she is treated in a certain way is part of how the business presents itself, and 2. the customers may express their dissatisfaction and annoyance on a place in the www where the businessman has no control over it. And then, as a businessman, you loose.
First post here. IMHO, such censorship is counterproductive given the interchangeability of components in the cnc market.
Unfortunately, this sort of thing is not unusual. See it a lot on stereo forums. But if the mfg is truly confident in what they provide to the public, no censorship occurs in mfg sponsored forums. I recall years ago reading both Naim and Linn forums regularly. Never saw this type of redaction—even though they competed heavily in all things audio/stereo. But both companies realized they benefited from mix and match of components and a healthy forum kept the upgrade bug alive.
Just my two cents.
@Aiph5u I can understand your perspective to some extent. However, I suggest we consider the type of editing that is being done. For example, I do not think it is okay for a business to change a customer’s post to endorse the business’s product. As Onefinity did in the post below.
My personal choice is the
PwnCNCair-cooled 80mm spindle…
My personal choice is the redline cnc air-cooled 80mm spindle…
If we are to assume this type of editing is okay then there is little forum content that can be trusted. It would be better for Onefinity to delete the entire post rather than make it appear that a community member is endorsing the company’s product.
I’m going to put my time into this community as my experience shows that PwnCNC’s business practices are better aligned with my values.
Hey Eriz,
I also got many posts where relevant parts were simply removed so that it now reads like I’m an idiot. This is really a no-go. I also got many posts totally deleted, like this one, or think of “What is the best dust boot for the Onefinity”. It was a good post that so many readers liked, and many others simply gone. Luckily I can restore them all, on my website maybe later when I find the time.
Anyway, the Onefinity business owners are old enough to know what they’re doing, so they made a decision that now has the consequences, Onefinity forum users wrote me that they won’t contribute to the Onefinity forum anymore.
