I assume today is the end for the releases for onefinity.
A few things caught my eye the new spindle kit and also There atc (rapid change). I see they focused on the bed build mostly and the regular spindles being 4 pole ceramic bearings. And the atc nothing being a conventional pneumatic atc but instead uses the rotation of the spindle at low rpm to change the collect.
I myself was researching this same style of atc probably a year ago and my conclusion was there where to much risk of things that can go bad and possibly injure someone in the shop.
What are yall thoughts ?
I wouldn’t change my purchase
I was somewhat intrigued by their new ATC. Then I realized that if you have a Buildbotics Onefinity CNC, that you would need to buy their Pro Series Easy Adapter. That adapter connects to the Buildbotics controller via the DB25 connector. However, that is the same connector that my PwnCNC Spindle VFD already uses. I asked Onefinity tech support how would that work for all of us Onefinity CNC users that currently are using PwnCNC spindles. There response was interesting. Basically they said they will not support any aftermarket accessories, and the only solution if you want to buy their ATC is to first buy their new Onefinity Redline Spindle. I can’t imagine too many people owning a PwnCNC spindle would make that change.
They are simply interested in making the money and nothing else. No one should be under the misapprehension that they are a contribution to the CNC users community.
Today I got an email from Masso, and it appears they had a change of heart, and are now supporting the Rapid Change. It’s coming in the 5.10 release…
its one of the reasons why when I was in charge of support, I was adamant with nick and clinton about never using the words “never”, ie “we’ll never do that”
Yes - we are also seeking controller partnership with 1 or 2 others in addition to Masso to keep options open for customers. I am unsure if Daniel finalized the other options yet, but we’re close. I believe Masso is most likely accommodating due to a lot of “please support Rapid Change” inquiries.
I’m an early adopter of the RC ATC on my Onefinity Woodworker Elite. The owner of RC ATC is a great person and has a really cool idea here that has made ATC affordable. I have the 8 pocket premium installed on my Woodworker Elite (on a QCW frame) and I love it. A few hundred dollars vs. a few thousand to get ATC functionality was GREAT for a hobbyist like me.
I am interested to know what other controlers may be available. Even though I am familiar with the masso and I selected it when I ordered my Dominator, knowing the Dominator is so easily upgradeable is nice. Plus I am not interested in the Rapid Change ATC. I still havent received the free one I was supposed to get when I bought the Elite Foreman. I plan to go with PwnCNC ATC once I am all setup with The Dominator. The guy I sold my Foreman to isn’t even interested in the RC. He said he plans to sell it once I can get it to him. Thank you for you keeping us updated.
Oh, to be clear, I would have LOVED to purchase the ATC that Daniel sells. I just couldn’t justify the expense for that capability. It’d be different if I had a production line going to mill pieces for a high volume of sales. I’m not trying to recommend RC OVER PWNCNC…just saying it is a viable alternative for people for whom cost IS a factor.
@MstrODstr. I hear you and completely understand. My biggest concern comes from the videos I have seen and I worry about the possibility of saw dust getting into the collets. I use dust collection religiously. It works great. But dust still floats and we all know it doesn’t take much to cause the bit to slip. Also I just do not trust Onefinity. I watched the live they did when they announced the Rapid Change release. The rep had a very hard time setting it up and I just wasn’t convinced it was ready for release. I still question if it is truly ready for release since I haven’t heard of anyone receiving them yet. PwnCNC’s ATC has proven reliable. Costs more, but at least I feel better about the products quality. Last thing I want is the bit to crash down into my AirWeights vacuum table.
