Conversion Kit Wiring

It has come to our attention that many folks converting Shapeoko 5 Pro’s… specifically the 4x4’s are running into an issue where the included Z stepper wire is about 4ft too short.
This is directly a result of where/how the wires are routed on the machine and we currently have two options to help solve this issue.

Our stepper cables use SA12 connectors and we’re currently cut off from this supplier due to the tariffs. Hopefully this will be resolved quickly and we can get our supplier channels opened back up. I am keeping a very close eye on the supply chain and the instant i can purchase extension connectors you better believe I will.

In the meantime, these connectors are unique in that you won’t find them readily available on amazon,. We chose these because of the multitude of options available from the supplier. I really hope things get resolved quickly as I definitely want to be able to offer simple extension cables.

Specifically the only connector we’re missing is the 6-pin & 2-pin female cable-side connectors for this cable. We have the proper connectors to make longer cables, but not extension cables.

There are currently two solutions we can currently offer:

  1. Perhaps the simplest is to flip your Y cable chain. Have this cable chain exit out the front instead of the rear. This would allow you to have plenty of length to lead right up into the Masso controller if it were mounted on the right side of the machine. This is the no-cost option and one i’d highly recommend… at least for now. Note that this is how our Dominator CNC routes the Y cable chain… is towards the front.

  2. The other option is to purchase our by-the-foot option. Purchasing a 24ft cable (for example) would cost $288. If you returned the z stepper cable and we could resell it we would give you a discount on that of $72. Retail we have the 20ft cable at $120 because we buy those in bulk and enjoy some bulk discounts. We further discount it when bundling it into the conversion kit which is why you’d only get a 60% credit on a 20ft cable.
Sorry to get so granular but trying to make sure there’s transparency.
$288-72=$216 but because you’re a repeat customer and took a chance on our conversion kit we’re throwing in a 20% discount off that bringing the 24ft cable down to 288*0.8-72=$158.40
    a. Buy the 24ft cable at $288 with a 20% discount code
    b. return the 20ft cable and we’ll refund another $72 upon receipt

If you’d like to choose option 2, reach out to support@pwncnc.com and we’ll provide you with a 20% discount code when ordering the longer cables.

If anyone has better options we are definitely listening. If we come up with alternative options we will share those asap.

Silly question maybe; but, what about cutting off the current connectors and using something more easily available/cheaper to create an extension cable?

That is an option i’ll look into.
We do have a large batch of premade 20ft cables, so it’ll be a while before i can implement it at the company level.
But individually it might be possible.
