Anti fatigue mats

Anyone have anti fatigue mats they love?

I’m looking for a good mix between roll-ability (chairs and castored tools), clean-ability (sawdust with broom), affordability and an interlocking/modular design.
I’m looking at needing something around 1,200 square feet

In classic forum fashion I can’t give you a good answer for your actual question, but if might be open to a different solution to your problem, here’s what I do. Instead of covering my whole shop floor due to the high cost, I instead found some nice anti-fatigue mats I liked and I stuck them in places I am most frequently. In front of my wood working bench, in front of my assembly bench, and of course in front of the CNC. Means I was able to invest more money into better mats which live where I’m standing 90 percent of the time.

Thanks, its more than just me though, the wife has a she-shed I’m looking to do as well (<300 ^2 ft), she doesn’t want carpet since shes downhill from the house and shop, and tile is out of the question for her application

It’s not really anti fatigue, but a couple solutions I have looked at are horse stall mats and Race Deck Flooring. Both would clean reasonably well, look reasonably good and reduce the harshness of a concrete floor.

Hi Chris. I don’t have a whole floor but I put some half inch thick rubber floor sheet under my CNC Machine about 4 years ago and it has been superb as a vibration/sound damping surface. I chose it from an industrial flooring company and it was described as being for high traffic areas like train station forecourts.

The 400 x 400mm piece under my SO3 shapeoko weighed in at around 25kg so it is very definitely heavy duty. I had to buy a slice from the whole width of the roll but it was well worth the money of around £80 ($103) including delivery. The hyperlink provided demonstrates many different solutions.

Not ure this will meet all your expectations, but I went with the rubber stall mats from Tractor Supply. They are 3/4 inch rubber so they dont facilitate moving things off and on the mat well, and they are pretty heavy. However, as others said, I drop them in my most used areas and have been very happy.

Hmmm… good idea for when moving machines is required. Would you use just the one horse or a team of four?

I do like these, but when converting to the dollar and shipping to usa, it’s unsustainable.
Got me something to look into though.

My real problem is just overwhelmed with options which all carry pros and cons

This was one of the first things i looked at online.
I haven’t been to tsc to actually look at them, but do they sweep man-glitter well?

I just know some of the mats aren’t very strong and like my radial arm saw doesn’t stay elevated, and in case i need to move it out a few inches, or my bandsaw out a few feet

Sweeping off the top is no issue . The sides are 3/4 thick so stuff will tend to accumulate around it. I use a blower in the shop and have no issues

As far as durability goes, I see no issue with these. I keep a cast iron table saw and jointer on mine with no issue. As long as you stay on the mat I wouldn’t worry. Getting heavy equipment off and back on again would likely not be fun. But for durability, these are like tires.

thank you for being thorough in your response.
i’ll head to my nearest tsc with the wife and check it out. can only learn so much online.

Yes, I was just illustrating one possible solution. I was happy to pay the premium for SMW products because I could not find anything as good in the UK. I am sure there must be many industrial floor suppliers in the US. I suspect that seriously industrial flooring will give you the best bang for your bucks.

Yes, this will mean many trips out to inspect what is on offer. I was too lazy to do that and just thought “if they put this down in public ares of train stations. it is unlikely to wear out to soon” :upside_down_face:

Various surface finishes will be available. Some will work better with sliders and some may well work easier with wheels. I put some heavy-duty wheels under my CNC bench and a couple hours of use demonstrated that the bench behaved as if it were suspended on gigantic coil springs.

I hated that and removed the wheels. The one inch vertical bounce evident during CNC operations, which was caused by me stupidly attaching industrial quality castors to my CNC bench (50kg load capacity per leg and four legs) has now been cured.

I bought horse stall mats. They’re durable, comfortable, easily cleaned and you can roll chairs, tools, etc. around without damage. They are 4’ x 6’ x 3/4" thick. They cost around $45 each at Tractor Supply and Rural King with quantity discounts. For 1200 sq ft, you’ll need 50 of them. You’re looking at about $2500 to cover the entire floor. I only bought 10 to cover areas that are highly utilized. 5 stars from me.

1-10 how’s sweepability of man glitter?
I went to tsc a few days ago for some hands on, and it didn’t seem very forgiving

I assume you are talking about sawdust, not the other stuff. I have no problem cleaning up, but I don’t sweep much. I usually use a shop vac with cyclone. My CNC machine does a great job of producing sawdust and chips. I also have a planer, saw table, sanders and other tools, all producing wood debris, in spite of dust collection.

Thanks everyone for your input.
I went to Costco where they had these recycled tire rubber, reversible mats for half the price in store listed here
