2.2kw 220v ER20 80mm 2-pole 400Hz Water-Cooled Power requirements

We (Chatfield Robotics) will be purchasing the Spindle in the title as part of a whole system purchase.

The questions I have are:

1)How many amps should the 220v circuit for the spindle be able to carry? 20A, 30A 40A 50A?

  1. Can a single 220v circuit be used for a complete Dominator system. We will likely be outfitting it with the 3Nm steppers.

The plug that comes with is for 20a, but the draw is 10a. What you'll need to power your 2.2kw 220v Spindle System - PwnCNC

You don’t want to do that for several reasons, most predominately signal interference. Optimally you want a circuit for the spindle, a circuit for the machine, and a circuit for any dust collector you may have. Smaller items like the pump could be on a shared circuit.

Well, while not ideal for our situation, at least I now know what “optimal” is.

OK, while on this subject, would 220v 20A be sufficient for 3Nm steppers?

The reason I am asking these questions is that we will be installing this system in a High School. The only real place we “might” be given room to install it is in at Auto Shop. There is 220v in there, but I don’t know the specifics about it yet. More research and begging to come.

yes. it’ll be sufficient.

With a new breaker, a 220v line can be made to a dedicated 110v also… but im sure being an educational institution, theres a lot of red tape to cut to make that happen.
