Water cooled spindle used infrequently

I’m looking for clarification on the water cooled spindle warm up process. I read the thread describing the break in and warm up process for the water cooled spindles from Daniel Dec 2023. My water cooled spindle sits in my 70-80 degreeF basement. I have not run my spindle for over 6 months but will be using it more in the near term. Should the warm up process always be followed if the spindle has sat unused for any length of time irrespective of environment temperature? Thank you for the feedback

I have found that when I let my spindle sit idle for several months, the first thing I need to do is run the coolant for 10 to 15 minutes without starting the spindle. When I don’t do this the spindle makes very unsettling noises. After several minutes for just coolant, I then run the warmup cycle with the coolant still flowing. (With a coolant alarm, it is a hassle to turn settings off/on to run the warmup with no coolant flowing.)

Thank you for the feedback. If you run the spindle couple times a week, do you think the warm up procedure is necessary?

I’m not an expert here, but I would guess in your environment that no warmup would be necessary if you are using your spindle multiple times per week. In my case, my shop is hardly temp controlled so I always run the warmup first when I’m going to use my CNC.

As i understand it depends if you have ceramic ball bearings, in which case you would not. Apparently the most recent spindles have those.
