Hello,
I have a 2.2KW 220V Water Cooled Spindle. But my last few runs I find it very hot to the touch when changing the bit. Definitely much hotter than previously. My runs are not anything out of the ordinary, Profiles, 3D, Pocket toolpaths mainly.
My pump seems to be flowing and there is water in both tubes.
Am I missing something or is this normal?
I don’t want to burn the spindle out inadvertently.
Thanks,
Wendel.
The water has little to do with the bit itself, but more with the motor.
Could be any of a few different things.
Too high rpm
Too slow of feedrate
Dull bit
Any combination of the 3
When you cut into material as it slices away, the chips it throws take some of the heat with it. That goes for the too slow as much as it does to fast. The dull bit causes the bit to over work
Will re-check all of these conditions. At a glance bits are new, varied and not dull, Feed rate and RPM are candidates but no different from previous similar runs which did not generate heat in the past few months of operating this spindle.
Thank you for your input and advice. I will keep an eye on it.
Wendel
