Superthane Tube Routing

I have a onefinity elite foreman along with a 2.2 kw water cooled spindle. Currently I’m routing the 2 coolant tubes and the spindle power cable along side the drag chain with Rowdy Roman clips. I am using the supplied cable ties and routing the power cable between the coolant tubes.

The problem I’m having is the extension clips are starting to pop off. So far 4 of them.

Any recommendations and experience on using different strategies?

When i had that issue initially, he tested on his beta machine which had something different.
Since then if it happened or was installation error where the chains were stuffed too much causing them to pop open resulting in them popping off.

Stuffed to much - you mean drag chain or his clips?

Garry, add larger drag chains. Those chips are a “hack-ish” solution at best. The upgraded drag chain brackets and chains Adam Fenn has designed and sells are a real solid solution. Mine are the original largest ones but I have a ATC which requires a lot of room plus when I ordered it was all that was available. Now he has the 50mm and they will handle everything just fine plus they’re a lot cheaper.

What are the specs on the aluminum? Do you have a cad drawing?

Garry

I give you another vote for the Ugly Dog Large Drag Chain 18x50 brackets. I put them on my Elite Foreman, 2.2Kw Water Cooled PWNCNC spindle, and a JTECH 44w Laser with air assist. The product is really solid. I printed mine from files out of PETG-CF but you can buy them printed. The aluminum angle you buy local, found 24 feet with 3 cuts/4 pieces for $28 at the local metal supply. 1"x1" x .125 white aluminum. Trim as needed. Amazon is a source for the chain, but UD sells it at a reasonable price.
It does add length to the back so the PWNCNC V9 dust boot has problems due to the tight bend for 4" hose. I ended up making brackets to solve the problem and remove the tension, but it was a bit of work.

I have the tube bundle for the elite foreman.

Sounds like you are saying that it can’t work without modifications. Does PwnCNC have a solution? If not is there a solution in the wind?

It took me a minute to understand tube bundle. I do not think it will work with the 18x50 drag chain. You can see below, the end of the V9 is directly below the drag chain after installing a larger one.

I hit the Rockler store (Yes, Rockler Store does indicate desperation) to see what I could find to make it work. The $24 dollar Flex Form hose, and $19 swivel port did the trick. You can get them from Amazon, but I wanted to touch and feel when I was trying to figure it out.

The jog at the bottom is the problem and the weight from above. I cheesed together a bracket using 5mm threaded rod, steel scrap, and a printed clamp. I will clean it up some day but it does work really well as is. The Form Flex allows for vertical adjustment of the V9 and removes weight/torque so the magnets hold despite the bend.I hope this helps.

Chris,

How do I get the ugly dog drag chain to work with the tube bundle you sold me?

We’re looking to release a product we’ve been hinting at since before atc was released, an overhead solution. People have added 2x 2" extensions, but we don’t have a “click here for a new 3rd party accessory” button. Might have problems with the extension adapter not being long enough though

This overhead solution - will I be able to use the stock drag chain and the #2 tube bundle?

Since I already have the Rowdy Roman clips - maybe I route spindle power cable via the clips and the route the superthane and vacuum using your new (almost secret) overhead solution.

The overhead, yes you’ll be able to still use the stock chains… in fact it’s preferred because rewiring the machine for it will be tedious

So the next question is when?

Can you provide any more information so a guy can make a decision without having to wait for a solution which may or may not fit the overall plan.

Also - should I snap open the drag chain and rout the spindle power cable inside the stock 1F drag chain?

With only a dozen or so outstanding ATC orders Daniel has said he was going to shift his focus, and getting that as well as other teased products across the finish line is the intent.
When, i can’t give a date, because i don’t know.
Should you route the spindle cable thru the chain? I did until i got my atc.

⅛" x 1½" x 1½" angles. The length will depend on which version of the Elite you have.

You add arms to the Ultimate Hose Clamp and some extensions behind your v2/v3.

I’m unclear what you’re saying is tedious? Are you saying that replacing the drag chains is tedious?

The Answer was yes, as the oversized chains you offer wouldn’t be necessary and the stock chains would be fine (since there wouldn’t be a need for other stuff to be added), as rewiring the machine motors wires for the boom would be tedious.

I’m not sure what you mean by re-wiring the motor wires, but don’t think any re-wiring is required when replacing the drag chains.

Do you know how much clearance there is between the stock drag chain and the tube, I can tell you if the tube will clear the 18x50mm drag chain. From the pictures, it looks like it might clear.
