PwnCNC's Universal Z-Cable Chain

PwnCNC’s Z-Cable Chain System

If you’re running one of our ATC or Water-Cooled spindle motors, you’re going to love our new Z-Cable Chain. It’s a universal machine-brand independent product designed to securely route and protect all tubes and wires coming out of your X-axis cable chain—keeping them neatly guided all the way to the top of your spindle.

We’ve engineered two custom spindle toppers, both staying within the standard 80mm spindle diameter:

  • One tailored for ATC motors
  • One designed for Water-Cooled motors

:wrench: But we didn’t stop there…

We’ve also created two unique rear mounts that attach directly to the Z-axis NEMA 23 screws, integrating cleanly with our Ultimate Hose Clamp system.

At the base, the chain mounts seamlessly to our Ultimate Hose Clamp Onefinity base, ensuring a rock-solid connection on Onefinity machines.
If you don’t have a Onefinity, then our Ultimate Hose Clamp Nema23 base will do the trick.

:white_check_mark: Tested and confirmed:
We’ve successfully installed the full system on our converted Shapeoko 5 Pro, and it works flawlessly.

Looks amazing!!! Flawless integration! Is there a dominator version around the corner?

Finally… the cure my OCD needed!! Can I pre-order my pre-order?

LOL… it has annoyed me for so long the wires just dangling there. I am so happy to have this finally.

I will have the product entry up this weekend. The majority is 3d printed, but the cable chains are not. I’ve ordered a large batch of chains that have already shipped, just waiting for them to arrive before customer orders get shipped.
Thus a very short pre-order timeframe. These should ship within the next few weeks… but the pre-order product entry will be up either tonight or tomorrow.

Awesome! I’ll definitely be ordering. Also, I love that you chose a large enough drag chain to be able to fit all of the ‘extra’ stuff… like air lines and laser stuff. Yet another excellent offering from PWN!!!

Is this a suggested add on for the dominator as well or is/will there be another solution for cable management up and over the a gantry plate for that machine?

It will absolutely work flawlessly on the Dominator. The main requirements is that our ATC or 80mm water-cooled spindle is on the machine.
I don’t have an air-cooled chain mount designed just yet. It’s more challenging since it has air-intake on top and my main goal for designing this was it was smaller than the 80mm diameter of the spindle motors.
The water-cooled base should work with other brands spindles. But I’ve only tested it with Pwn water-cooled spindles both with and without Kool connectors.

I am working on the air-cooled spindle topper… hopefully releasing that soon.

Still discussing it with the team for making it an add-on for the Dominator machines… like including it, offering a discount or what not.

Isn’t it a wasted effort trying to get it on the air cooled?
What kind of hoses/wires are there that need to be put it in a drag chain?

Spindle cable, Jtech and air assist (at most) is all i can think of.

Sort of yes… which why i went ahead and launched the product without it.
Another major feature is it provides a strong way of guiding a hose over the top of the machine and down to a front-mounted dust boot. Using velcro or something you can tie the hose to the chain and guide it down safely.

That sounds great, I will see what becomes of any inclusion with the dominator per your post, but whatever it ends up being (or not) I will be pulling the trigger on it and my ATC cable/hose routing efforts will thank you!! It really looks fantastic!

Looks like a great solution. A couple of questions. With the PwnCNC ATC cables, air hoses and water hoses, how much room is left? I also have two air hoses for UDW Sidekick dust boot, cable for SideKick dust boot, cable for JTech laser and air assist hose for JTech laser. Will all of those fit?

As to mounting, do I need to purchase the 1F mounting bracket of is it included in the kit? (I may have one stored somewhere if I can find it. )

I can say that it’ll be an 18x50 drag chain. I know it doesn’t answer your specific question directly, but it’ll give you some metric.

The stock onefinity chains are 15x20

Notice in the pictures, the ATC connectors do not go in the chain, and there’s a couple links that are omitted for them. Thats done for several reasons to include the connectors don’t bend, and even if they were in the chain, those links would not bend because the connectors don’t.

Ugly Dog Woodworks sells 18x50 and he says it’ll fit:
18x50mm Drag Chain

  • The stock Onefinity Elite cables
  • PwnCNC spindle power cable
  • Two 10mm coolant lines
  • Three 6mm PwnCNC ATC air lines
  • PwnCNC ATC motor sense cable
  • J-Tech laser cable
  • 4mm air-assist
  • 8mm air blast line
  • Two 6mm dust boot air lines
  • One dust boot control cable

Yeah i was sad that the H20 connector wouldn’t fit… but at least they’re under control and out of the way. We’ve had a few folks had accidents with their ATC connectors because they’re not “on” the top of the spindle, rather extended out with cable connectors.
That is the only thing i don’t like about the z chain with the ATC… but otherwise i’m very happy with it.

I believe it’ll be fine. In my 18*50 cables on the HDM, i have extra wiring for SST’s mister and such, extra power and what-not. I bet it’ll fit… but as Chris said, Ugly Dog commented on that with his chain supply.

I have the UglyDog drag chain. Since these are the same size, it will all fit…tight squeeze, but it fits.

You want to be careful not to overstuff the drag chains, which with the words “tight squeeze” sounds like it is overstuffed. Here’s an article on the subject, skimming i found a rule of thumb for allowing 10% to movement

Perhaps “tight squeeze” was the wrong phrase. Everything fits nicely. You just have to take some time to make sure everything is arranged and aligned in an orderly manner. I’ve been using this combination for six months with no problems I believe Adam (Ugly Dog Woodshed) has been using it for considerably longer.

Thank you, the clarification i added was more for the next person than you, but if you didn’t know that drag chains have a optimal maximum fill amount, well there ya go.

Even if that was all I had… I would still much prefer them in a drag chain… so I don’t think it’s a wasted effort on the air cooled.

I’m still working on the Air-spindle base. It’s more challenging but i believe it’s worth it.
Perhaps that base will get a slightly smaller chain… a 15x30 or 15x40 maybe. The 18x50 might be overkill…
The smaller chain would make it easier to attach and require less structure compared to the 18x50.
a 15x30 or 15x40 is still overkill for one wire but it would clean up the appearance of any machine and allow for the addition of misters or other wires like led’s etc.
