Spindle nut pattern and size specifications

Hi All. I have looked through the knowledgebase and searched in the forum. I cannot find any specification data for the collet nut on the 80mm 2.2kw spindle. I want to buy a torque wrench for the nut on the spindle. There are several types of nut and I would like to know what type of nut is fitted to the 2.2kw 80mm air cooled spindle. I have illustrated several patterns of nut wrench below. Any assistance would be very welcome.

I have looked at many different ER collet sets and where the vendor has been able to talk about the country of manufacture, I have been surprised to find many are from generic manufacturers in countries which are not known for their QA systems.

I had finally settled on an Omega ER 20 collet set and was suprised to find that they were made in India by a generic manufacturer. At a cost of £176.70 ($220) per set (plus 20% VAT) from 2 ~ 13mm, I thought I would want to be able ensure the manufacturer’s quality, which is hard to do when they are not available for handling.

Several names presented themselves: Schaublin (the original inventor of the E collet), Techniks whose products are very expensive and Rego-Fix, who modified the original E collet of Schaublin and the modified collet has become the ER collets we know so well today.

I decided to buy a set of REGO-FIX collets. Standard collets have a TIR of 10 microns (0.00039") and the Ultra Precision collets have a TIR of 5 microns (0.00019"). They cost £19 ($23.66) and £29 ($36.11) respectively plus 20% VAT. Not as cheap as they could be but they are made in Switzerland so the quality is assured.

Thank you.

If you’re looking for the shape, the Spindle wrench listing has pictures, which looks like picture 3 from your link

I don’t have confirmation of that information at this time, but looking at several listing on Google that’s what they were. We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel

I found this image among your info sheets. It appears to show the spindle diameter as 23mm.

Then it sounds right. Threads are measured by the OD

Great! That helps me plan several purchases before my PwnCNC spindle package arrives. Thanks Chris.

Could you please tell me what the collet nut extrernal dimensions are. I have seen that they can vary and the dimension across the flats can be anywhere from 28 to 35mm. I need to know so that I can buy the appropriate detachable spanner head for a torque wrench. Thank you.

The flat sizes were available on the spindle wrench listing i shared before in the description

Thanks Chris… just old age setting in I guess. The excitement is mounting as the day of the Spindle/VFD draws near.
