Hi All. I have looked through the knowledgebase and searched in the forum. I cannot find any specification data for the collet nut on the 80mm 2.2kw spindle. I want to buy a torque wrench for the nut on the spindle. There are several types of nut and I would like to know what type of nut is fitted to the 2.2kw 80mm air cooled spindle. I have illustrated several patterns of nut wrench below. Any assistance would be very welcome.
I have looked at many different ER collet sets and where the vendor has been able to talk about the country of manufacture, I have been surprised to find many are from generic manufacturers in countries which are not known for their QA systems.
I had finally settled on an Omega ER 20 collet set and was suprised to find that they were made in India by a generic manufacturer. At a cost of £176.70 ($220) per set (plus 20% VAT) from 2 ~ 13mm, I thought I would want to be able ensure the manufacturer’s quality, which is hard to do when they are not available for handling.
Several names presented themselves: Schaublin (the original inventor of the E collet), Techniks whose products are very expensive and Rego-Fix, who modified the original E collet of Schaublin and the modified collet has become the ER collets we know so well today.
I decided to buy a set of REGO-FIX collets. Standard collets have a TIR of 10 microns (0.00039") and the Ultra Precision collets have a TIR of 5 microns (0.00019"). They cost £19 ($23.66) and £29 ($36.11) respectively plus 20% VAT. Not as cheap as they could be but they are made in Switzerland so the quality is assured.
Thank you.
