So I already know how to unlock the spindle. I got that from someone else on C3Ds forums. I work in tech, so wiring might be something I could do. Ideally I don’t want to get a new spindle.
Is it the same for their 2.2kw spindle or is this on their 1.5kw spindle that it uses 5v?
doesn’t matter spindle wattage. it is the voltage that the controller sends to the vfd to know how fast to set it. if you left the vfd at 5v, anytime you commanded over 12000 rpm, it would go 24000 rpm
That is good to know. I will take a look and see what I can figure out tonight on the machine while I await my conversion kit to come. I ordered it last week, and I assume now I will need some wiring to wire my spindle to the new controller.
Anything else I should have purchased from PWN to get things working with my spindle outside of the VFD stuff?
GX12 Connectors – GX12-6 Cable Side. Hopefully its a 5 or 6 core wire that you already have, although I believe carbide only needs 2 wires for a spindle to work (pwm and ground)
Or maybe it’d be easier to cut the one end off, and wire in a molex/wire it directly into the vfd, but I dont know your skillset and tools available. PWM Spindle Systems Control Cable
This will help in identifying where the wires go… a little bit.
I know that 10v is not necessary and is pin 6
Other PWM Controllers
This is kind of a bonus but will raise your X-Axis ~1.25"
30mm Risers for Shapeoko 5 Pro (limited run)
Knowing what I know about figuring out wiring and programming, its a task I wouldn’t take on, but I applaud your initiative/desire.
Well don’t applaud too loudly
. Decided to sell my C3D and get the 80mm water cooled from pwncnc today. Will sell my C3D and hopefully come close to even. Conversion kit has shipped and hopefully spindle does soon. Then I can get that all put together next week.
I also had already ordered the risers, the xyz plate and tool setter with the conversion kit. So should be set for what I need for now
Do you have a picture of how you set up your machine with the conversion? Been following this pretty close. I am going to be routing cables this week as time allows. Just trying to see where others set up the controller and such. Thanks in advance!
Did you manage to wire in the gantry light?
I did not even try. After looking at the situation, I decided it was easier and simpler to get the kit from pwncnc and install it.
I bought the Core Kit yesterday but I need the gantry light connected. I see it tit up on the Pawccnc video but I dont see instructions anywhere, Unless they replaced the light. I dont know the voltage either. Any thoughts. I need a light. rather use the existing.light bar.
As far as I know, there are no instructions for converting the Carbide3D light to work with the Masso controller. At the cost of $30, I decided it wasn’t worth my time to mess around with a multimeter and figure it out.
It turns out PawnCNC has a light strip for the masso. Problem solved. I broke down and ordered both the Conversion and ATC. Wish me luck
