Onefinity Forum Censorship

I’m looking forward to the dominator… not because i have biases both for pwncnc and against sienci labs, but more because of the Z clearance/total travel. Super stoked

When our business was harrassed for all of 2023 on 1F’s FB group and Daniel brought it up to mods and owner, they implied that it’s just how it is on social media and that they didn’t want to get censorship complaints. You won’t see that on our group or Sienci Lab’s. I had joined the official 1F FB a few years ago and it was so hostile in there that I backed right back out 2 weeks later in fear of saying something unprofessional since I represented PwnCNC.

Hey Diana,

I am not a facebook user, just to understand, what kind of harrassment was it?

It’s a bit of a long story but I’ll try to summarize: We used to sell primarily dust boots from 2019-2021 and had quite a variety by then. Another dust boot seller emerged sometime late 2022/early 2023. Because that seller used the 1F FB group as his primary avenue for sales pitches, and a lot of 1F’s customers were already talking about PwnCNC and our spindle kits, his friends began targeting PwnCNC claiming we stole his Nighthawk dust boot design since the v10 was also oval shaped and spindle mounted (lots of varieties like this already existed including our v7). The group/clique of at least a dozen or so also attacked our spindle product saying it was a cheap $40 VFD, low quality, and that we marked our price up 10 times, even dropping some name calling like “PwnCNC is a snake”. Comments like this happened every time a customer even mentioned us. It went on a full year and it was clearly an attempt to stop our sales. We reported the harassing comments to mods as it broke the rule to be civil, and they did not remove them. After 6-9 months or so we began screen shotting and showing the proof to the owner, but the comments did not stop. The Nighthawk seller also came out with his own spindle kit in mid 2023 and it appears all of his mentions are still on the 1F forum so it is only PwnCNC that was removed.

Hey Diana,

thank you for explaining it to me. That went really badly. I think it’s a shame when there’s hostility, aggression and ruthlessness. It shouldn’t be like that.

I never felt entirely comfortable with 1F and used your own spindle and dustboot solutions. My hope is that PwnCNC go from strength to strength. You have a great company, with fantastic products and all can see that you are nice people who deserve to be successful. :+1:

I’m super sad to hear this. The amount of weird and uncomfortable things OF has done that I’ve managed to catch before it was wiped from their forum, I can only imagine how much stuff, like you’ve described here, is going on that I haven’t seen.

Since I live in Canada, the exchange rate and shipping are definitely not on my side, so I’ve never bought any PWN hardware. I have however bought a large number maker files. I have three seperate PWN dust boot designs (which I’ve modified slightly) and printed myself that I swap in and out regularly. I have two more I haven’t even printed yet. I also have the mag lock stuff used all over my shop that I absolutely love. I can’t say enough good things about my experience buying these files and manufacturing them myself. Just having the option to do that is a live saver.

That’s wonderful to hear! That was Daniel’s vision, to be able to share with other makers. Obviously, we have to make some money since it’s a business, but we wanted it to be about sharing and community as well. I do hope shipping costs improve, here’s to optimistic thoughts, HAHA.

Hey Diana, hey @Daniel, hey all,

I finally published a statement on my website. What do you think of it?

My impression, based on your writing, was that they at one point suggested pwncnc as an alternative to a makita. The only mention i ever saw of pwnCNC was in the brochure saying use a promo code and save 10% on a spindle, or listing of the v8 boot in the store.

Don’t forget the over emphasis of “we don’t support spindles” even when the customer is asking how to use his onefinity probe block

Some of their promo videos from Morgan feature pwnCNC spindle, but the spindle was debranded.
I can say alot about how i felt about the deal, but it’ll just get my blood to boil.

Hey Chris,

you are right, it was not an explicit option, just the 80 mm spindle mount. But here you can see they linked to PwnCNC when the question was which spindle to select (from web.archive.org)

Lol, i just read that spindle cons list… definately not speaking of pwn, and totally talking about Amazon

Above in the archive link Onefinity wrote in the past:

Plug and Play @PwnCNC spindle:

PwnCNC

PwnCNC

PwnCNC is the premier CNC accessories company featuring spindle kits, dust boots, clamping solutions, and much more.

Thanks for posting that and keeping it factual. If you wanted to edit anything on your site, here are a few other details from what I recall:

  1. In addition to the same motor and VFD, the WS-16 connector is the same as ours - Daniel spent a LONG time trying to find that connector! (haha). Some intellectual property such as our research and data was used from our website and put into their manual.

  2. Besides your 60 manipulated posts, there were over 200 mentions of “pwncnc” on their forum that were copied and pasted to become Redline. They later erased them rather than keeping the content as about Redline.

  3. 1F only very briefly endorsed our spindle system in one PDF document with the 10% discount code upon release of the Elite in the fall of 2022. The duration of the endorsement, I do not recall - perhaps only a few weeks. We kept the coupon code active for the customers even after 1F quickly changed the messaging to “we don’t support spindles and using one may void your warranty”. Our product continued to sell well through 2023-2024 despite the constant “it might void your warranty” warnings.

It seems their Redline roll out has not gone well in terms of delivery expectations and communications. G-Penny would always advise us to order Black Friday stock in August, and their factory also has a full month shut down/slow down for Chinese New Year in February.

Hey Diana,

thank you for your comments. Do you think that I need to change something else? I am not a lawyer, but I think I just want to tell the truth in a neutral way. Readers can build their own opinion, but I think the facts are already devastating, it’s only the question how many people realized how they handled or still believe that this is a dear little friendly company that competes fairly among its competitors only on the quality of its products. Obviously it’s not enough for them to offer a product that speaks for itself.

By the way, just in case Onefinity would try to delete their pages at web.archive.org, here is a download of the page where they linked to PwnCNC when the question was which spindle to use:

I think one day we could try to write a more in-detail version of the story. I lack a little bit time at the moment but my sense of justice would find that appropriate. After all, people identify with their CNC machines and manufacturers and they should know how Onefinity behaved towards Daniel. And I think customers like background stories.

Aw, interesting! Thank you for that link.. you don’t need to change anything just adding what I recalled. thanks again!

Hey Diana,

yes, the Onefinity forum is full of people waiting months for their spindle. But I can’t link them to you, because I suppose I’ll lose my forum account then. I would still like to have control over my postings. I’m not going to delete everything, it’s been useful to a lot of people. And I can’t really delete 4000 postings. I will just gradually build up the important answers and topics on my own website, bit by bit.

That sounds like a good plan so that you do not lose all of your time investment into providing good information for the community.

I hope you are doing well and healthy! Take care.
