I want to slide a full sheet of MCP (melamine coated particle board). 49 x 97. Then have the cnc cut it in half with a 5 mm compressiom bit (2 passes)
While working with full sheets I want to switch to MTC because the tool holders have been removed.
I want to keep Masso tools aligned 1 to 1 with slots to keep everything simple.
The tools holders must pop off / om with magnets very quickly
What has worked for me is Ugly Dogs quad holders. I can pop them off 4 tools at a time.and set the quad tool holder on a shelf below the cnc. My tools are on the right side of the cnc. This keeps the changing from ATC to MTC very simple.Currently I have 16 tools set up which includes doubles of a few tools. Say 1 older 5 mm compression for hogging material and 1 razer sharp tool for finishing. When the razer sharp one is too dull for finish work it is moved to the hogging position and a brand new razer sharp one goes into the finishing position.
The full sheet thing is a workflow i’m hoping to be able to figureout and explore at some point.
Specifically the ability to have NO tools in any slots and MTC change them as needed.
Here’s what i’m thinking with this sort of setup… i’m working off from the idea that Slot numbers are different than Tool numbers… and this aligns with the Tool Library features in Masso.
You can have 4 tools… with any of the 4 in any of the 4 slots IF your machine has 4 slots.
Tool numbers relate directly to tool-names which is why i designed the press-in labels below the tool number as part of the XL tool cup. I can refer to the tool number or the tool name as needed and instantly see both physically.
Each numbered/named tool is movable and can be inserted into any slot as defined in my carving file.
If i have a file named “Sword-3-4” then I know that file was designed with tools 3 & 4… and I’m thinking i can grab tools 3 & 4 from my rack in the back. In the library i can specify which slots each tool is sitting in prior to starting the carve.
ATM i’ve lined all of my tools along the rear of the machine, but you could store them on a wall, or even mounted on the back of the gantry so it’s close but out of the way.
