New to CNC looking at dominator pro got quesions

Choosing between the 2 or 3Nm steppers.

Seeing many say the lighter cnc gear are more precise and seeing the dominator is a beast can the heavier gear be overcome with the larger stepper motors?

I am looking for my first machine to work with wood and soft metals.

Ps I am a fan of heavy duty.

Sounds like it’s 3nm for you. I believe its overkill, but would refute the accuracy claim. Even if it were true, it would be in the thousandths of an inch, but thanks to masso, this can be overcome with stepper resolution calibration wizard.

@Eric I have the Dominator Pro with the 3nm steppers. Yes the Pro is definitely a beast. Which is what I was looking for. I added the ATC to mine and it too is very heavy. I have yet to see the slightest hesitation. I’m still in the testing mode and so far everything has been turning out great.

Got my Dominator Pro ATC up and running and it is solid. Square and perfectly trammed on assembly. Same as Joe in testing phase but the machine is amazing thus far!

how long does it take to complete the build of dominator pro?

@Paultommy The assembly process is time consuming. Especially if you purchase the Legs kit or other upgrades. But depending on how much time per day you have to invest in it’s assembly it can go pretty quick. By quick I mean probably two weeks verses much longer if your only putting in an hour or two per day.
It helps if you are familiar with the 8020 parts and know what actually goes into a CNC. Because you will be required to assemble just about every part. There are some assembly videos and I believe the assembly manual is far enough along to finish assembly. With that said, by the time you finish the assembly you probably know the CNC and every part like the back of your hand.
