I appreciate that you are interested in what we think and give us the opportunity to contribute. Thank You.
My work area is currently 400 x 400mm (15.7 x 15.7” is a standard Shapeoko SO3) and it is not big enough to take more other than added length of material under the Y rails. I guess a truly modular system would not care what size was specified (within reason) and the Dominator looks like it is a brilliant investment.
If I had to make extra room for one machine, I would scrap my SO3 and happily work with 610 x 610mm (2 x 2’) If one came off the production line this time next year, I would want to buy it. The addition of a Saunders Machine Works fixture plate, with 6mm holes at 20mm centres, would be the cherry on the top and guarantee that the Dominator is the next large purchase I make. ![]()
32x32 is good for me. I don’t have much space in my shop. Going to 48x48 would just be too big and 24x24 is too small for the work I do.
I agree 32x32 is an awesome size for me as well, I loved my Shapeoko 3 XXL
A 3x4 is actually pretty nice as you can still have some decent size signs. Especially overhanging doors and what-not. Of course all of these various machine sizes depend on what you make.
The Dominator i designed with basically a 50”x50” bed. the front/back is 48” supported with a 2” front-overhang for tool-setter and ATC tool holders to sit.
Next year, I’m wanting to delve into providing an upgrade kit for our 4x4 Dominator to convert it into a “true” 4x8 or rather 50” x likely 100 to accommodate most plywood sheets. A few inches of that 100 would be overhang, again for tools and such.
I LOVE the idea of having a machine built with its rear up against a garage door. Then coming home with some sheets of plywood in back of truck, back up to that door, open and immediately slide a sheet out of your truck directly onto the CNC machine. clamp and carve, remove parts, rinse and repeat. This workflow would be really awesome for those making plywood products.
Lately i’ve been thinking on how i can design an add-on for our 4x4 Dominator, the Y drive system would need to change from a screw to likely rack-n-pinion, the X should be able to stay the same. Then it’s just adding additional extrusion legs/bed parts to achieve the additional length.
So… if anyone is really wanting a true 4x8 machine… it is going to be our top priority next year. Consider starting with our Dominator 4x4 and we’ll provide an upgrade ![]()
That is awesome Daniel.
I was looking for a 4x8 but ended up placing the order for your 4x4 for the time being. I was hoping there would be a kit to upgrade it to a 4x8 in the future.

I think another interesting survey to fine tune those results, would be to ask …
”What size machine do you currently have, and how often have you needed it to be bigger?”
I am sure you didn’t want that many unique answers, but I have been spending my last few weeks trying to decide on a machine and have been thinking about this quite a bit. I am putting this in my garage where I already have other woodworking tools and cars, so space, dust, and noise are all issues. I plan to build an enclosure for sound and dust control, so overall space limitations are there. I have narrowed my choices down to the 4x2 systems and am also considering the MegaV2 XL at 35” x 35”. But since you asked, if I had the perfect size that would cover most of my projects, it would be 42” wide x 32” deep. I prefer wider rather than deeper style if I want to do pass-through work. One other important issue when planning an enclosure is the clearance around the machine and work areas needed. Keeping this well planned out lets me keep the overall footprint to just a few inches beyond the machine dimensions on all sides. Thanks for asking
I’m half the minority (2) who want 3x4. It’s close to the size I’m replacing (Journeyman) and would fit on my 49” x 79” torsion box cabinet.
Alas, the 4x4 is too big. But I prefer a “Pro” over a “Core” Dominator. Can a 2x4 or 4x4 be modified (on either PwnCNC’s end or mine) to make it a 3x4? (I sent a similar question to the Support folks).
I’m a little delayed but a 3x4 Dominator Pro is coming very soon. There will be a longer runway as we don’t have any of the “3ft” linear rails or ball screws.. so those will need to be ordered.
But you all spoke and we are listening!
i believe I mentioned it in the other thread about this, but it was reinforced the other day when I bought a couple sheets of 5’x5’ baltic birch.. i would really like a 3x5
