Is Dominator Even an Upgrade Or Option

Hey everyone — looking for some real‑world guidance as I’m planning to add another to the Onefinity Foreman 48×48.

I’ve been running a Foreman for a while, and after upgrading to a MASSO controller, all the “Onefiniky” issues disappeared overnight. The machine finally behaves like it should. I’ve logged 275 jobs in the last couple months, running it 6+ hours a day, and it hasn’t missed a beat since ditching the Black Box. I don’t see a cult following of for the Dominator yet. Guess PWN is still being honest with machines and not handing out to every Tom, Dick and Hary influencer yet, LOL

My setup is built around production of smaller items, not sheet‑goods ripping at 200+ IPM. I run a dedicated vacuum fixture table with a Busch oil pump pulling 10–18 inHg, and all my fixtures are designed around a full usable 48×48 work envelope. That’s non‑negotiable — I need every inch.

What I’m looking for now

I need to step up to a machine that:

  • Supports ATC reliably

  • Still allows me to use my existing vacuum fixtures

  • Provides a true 48×48 usable area (not “marketing 48×48”)

  • Doesn’t require me to remove exterior walls to get it inside

  • Can be assembled on‑site due to limited shop space

  • Has sane acceleration options for vacuum‑held small parts (not insane ramp rates that launch parts off the table)

Machines I’ve looked at

  • PWN CNC

  • Avid

  • ShopSabre

  • Laguna

  • Shapeoko HDM

  • And a handful of others

The Onefinity is actually performing great now that it has a real controller behind it — but I’ve hit the ceiling on workflow. I need ATC, better rigidity, and a platform that’s built for daily production, not hobby volume.

What I need from the community

I’m specifically looking for:

  • Real‑world feedback on PWN machines with ATC

  • How well they integrate with vacuum fixture setups

  • Any owners running full 48×48 with small‑part production

  • Assembly considerations for tight spaces

  • Anything you wish you knew before buying

Appreciate any insight — trying to make the smartest move without redesigning my entire workflow.

I took delivery of a Onefinity Elite Foreman in January 2025. I sold it in March 2025 for what I paid for it. I was not happy with Onefinity as Company. I loved the Masso Controller. For me It is a perfect match.

Since I needed a 48x48 I planned on purchasing an Avid. I believe the Avid still requires the use of a PC, I hate that part. When I realized that the Dominator Pro had the Masso and because Daniel, IMHO, is the one to turn to for the Masso here in the USA, I decided to order the Dominator with an ATC. I bought all the accessories, stand etc. And since I had already ordered the Airweights Slat system for the Onefinity, I incorporated it into the table of the Dominator. The only thing I would do differently there is I would use four 24x24 Airweights tables.

The Dominator is an excellent CNC. Very rigid and built like a tank. Not unlike the Avid. It’s max acceleration is 200 ipm. As you know, since it has the Masso, it has a closed loop system. Another reason I like the Masso system.

To answer a few of your questions:

  1. The PwnCNC ATC is very good. I use it all the time.
  2. Since the Z height is 8”, it allows me to use the vacuum system. I don’t know much about the Busch system so I will not comment there.
  3. Yes, it has a true 48x48 useable area.
  4. It comes in several boxes, so you will have to assemble it. If you are patient and are familiar with how to assemble a CNC it will go ok.
  5. As far as sane acceleration options, I think I will leave that one alone.

PwnCNC is a good company to deal with. Daniel is growing the company and it looks pretty good there.

If you are very comfortable using a CNC and know how to assemble one, I would recommend the Dominator.

Thanks, Daniel and PWN have been great from my dealing with them on the Masso Upgrade. Absolutly love the controller and the 3nm motors. Heck of an upgrade from the Black Box open loop.

With the ATC do you have room on the back side of the table to mount the pods and still have the full 48 depth of the table. I know I can get all this info from PWN but want some user insight also.

@Bovis . I’m not sure about that. I have my vacuum slats attached to the table so that I can cut a full 48x48. I have room left on all four sides. But I have very little left in the back because of how I mounted them. With my setup, most of the extra Y travel is in the front and that was designed to leave a hang over so things could be mounted to the front frame and still be accessible.

I am still experimenting with where to put them. So far I am not happy with either of the sides. Gets in the way of loading material from the side they are on. Lately I have been using the manual changes because I have been doing a lot of inlay work and I I just find that easier because of the jig I use for that. I just don’t trust the vacuum table with end grain. I have been watching Daniel experimenting with a new system for swapping out holders. I’m just not sold on it yet. Too little info about it.

If I had planned better, I would have worked out the ATC holder placement first, then attached the slats.

Recently I discovered that 1F are planning on introducing a larger CNC. I Can’t find any reference to it, now :thinking: . I recall mention of 8 x 4 Foot CNC being mentioned. Arriving around the end of this year.

PS my dealings with PWNCNC have always been 100% nicer than someone offering seasonal discounts :innocent:

Their 4x8 is called the full eight, and it has a 4x4 carving footprint, the bed moves forward and backwards.

Creative thinking none the less, but you now need 4’x12’+ since 4’ will always be out of the footprint either in front or back
