Can anyone enlighten me as to what the difference is between the PwnCNC “Spindle Kit” and “Spindle System” are?
I noticed that the kit doesn’t include the control cable, the VFD keypad mount, keypad extension cable, and VFD enclosure. Are there more differences that I missed? How about preprogramming of the VFD settings between the 2 offerings?
I am on the Shapeoko PRO XL platform and was considering their spindle offering as well. However I am leaning toward PwnCNC as the spindle is a little more powerful, VFD’s not locked down, and Daniel seems like a solid guy who really takes care of his patrons.
Hi,
The spindle kit is equivalent to buying on amazon but a little extra. You’ll need to make all the wiring connections, and do some light programming. Available features such as IoT strip and Manual override switch are missing features of the kit. Its also a lower level tier if you were trying to upgrade to ATC as it would require a customer purchased Upgrade to make it a system, then the upgrade path could be used.
The spindle system is as plug and play as we can make it with aircraft connectors and comes preprogrammed.
@NerdCaveCraftworks I purchased this system for my 4 year old Shapeoko SO3 and could not be happier. It was indeed plug and play thanks to Chris looking at an image of Carbide 3D controller first. I had to plug in the leads for mains power, spindle power and a PWM connector. It has been absolutely faultless in operation. Highly recommended. I also purchased the V7 dustboot kit.
I ended up ordering the 1.5kw 80mm spindle system for the ER20 collets ability to run stiffer tooling for some light metal machining projects in the future. @QCDvacuum Always great to know that good support is easily accessible. I like your Saunders Machine Works workholding system by the way, I’m also a fan of theirs and have been watching their NYCCNC channel for quite a long time before I committed to buy my machine.
Can’t wait to finish the doors on my enclosure and get the new spindle online, the sound reduction and added power will be very welcome!
It gave me an instant improvement in workholding repeatability, adjustment and security and the fixture tooling plate made the machine far more rigid. I also used three SMW stiffener bars too. The SMW system products were expensive anyway and even more so getting them shipped to the UK. I would not happily change the current system for anything else.
Keeping my SMW modified machine encouraged me to change the original belt adjustment system, which I really hated. I can now adjust all three belts accurately in a time of around 20 seconds per belt. I adjust the Gates GT2 x 9mm belts to a frequency of C3 (130.813 Hz) using a guitar tuner and they stay tensioned for a good eight months at a time.
