I am looking to use the VFD to activate the pond pump. I want it to turn the pump on when the VFD is powered up, and turn the pump off when the vfd is powered down. I can see in the VFD manual that there is a relay in the VFD. I scoured the manual for settings, but do not see an easy way to activate and deactivate this relay output. Can anyone provide some relevant info as to how one would accomplish this task? I know I can use the iot accessory, but I am trying to limit the amount of ‘stuff’ in the shop. Thanks
Hello, this is close to possible.
I’d recommend the same thing many folks do which is to wire up an IoT power strip into the IoT port on the side of the vfd.
This way the pump turns on when the spindle rpm’s exceed (roughly) 5500.
When the spindle spins down, the pump will also turn off when it descends below 5500.
The goal is cooling however it is good to have the spindle “warmed” up when in regular operation. Having the delayed start of the pump is actually good for the spindle motor as it allows the bearing grease to warm up to a good operating temperature.
