Hey all
With the humidity being a staggering 80% on average you know the rest of anything metal and even some freshly dimensioned wood is doomed. This lead me to looking at dehumidifiers for my work shop but I dont wana get a finicky one due to all the dust that would be in the shop, so anyone who uses dehumidifiers can you suggest one that can take the jamming of operating in a workshop environment and/or is easy to clean.
I’ve been using (4) dehumidifiers for our 3d print farm for a few years now. I picked them up from ULine back in early 2023.
I recently hooked up a drain hose and ran it under the garage door to regularly drain. I still need to do the same to the other 3, so i’m still dumping them every morning and night. It can regularly get upwards of 70% around the print farm racks.
Looks like they have different models now, but i haven’t had any issues from them and they run almost non-stop for 3 summers now without issues.
I run two of these in my basement shop:
Price was right. I run them both 24/7, for about 2-1/2 years now with no issues. I had previously purchased ‘name’ brand at my local hardware store, they crapped out in six months and were twice the price.
I have one of them draining into a condensate pump (like you would have for a gas furnace), and the other drains directly into a sump pump pit. I am able to maintain +/- 45% humidity year round. I’m in central (upstate) NY and we get very high humidity in the summer. I run them on high / turbo continuous setting during the high humidity months, but can turn them down in the winter so they cycle on/off automatically as needed.
I also put them on a dedicated circuit with an on/off switch, so if I’m sweeping or doing something that really kicks up dust, I can shut them both off by flipping the one switch, then turn them back on after the dust settles.
I ordered this one just before you made this post. Shop is more humid than the garage, when i was in it.
It’ll get here Wednesday or Thursday.
