Hello,
This has been probably asked somewhere in the forum but I did searches and did not find anything. What’s the real advantage of going up from a 1.5kw water cooled spindle to a 2.2kw water cooled spindle other than the collet size and the 700 watts?
If you’re speaking of 80mm, collet size offering is the same, however with the 1.5kw, just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
The difference really should boil down to your ability to power it. If you have the ability to run a 220v line, the question is why would you settle for less with the 1.5kw.
The initial investment difference is extremely negligible and to decide later on you need the extra power will be so expensive itd be better to sell your 1.5 and buy a new spindle system. To later upgrade to the 2.2kw would cost you $900 or $910 vs $25 getting it from the getgo. Need it and not have it is worse than having it, and not needing it
I originally got a 1.5kw because i didn’t have room in the breaker panel. I have since moved and have plenty of room in my panel, so when upgrading to atc, 220v was the way to go.
