Back in busibness. I guess the pump needed a rest. But it did stop on its own about 5 minutes after the job crashed out.
However, out of curiousity, how long can a water cooled spindle last if the pump dies? The issue made me think of the scenario that the pump stops and the spindle is still running and you don’t hear it as the shop vac noise will drown out the pump and spindle noise.
I’ve recently forgot to turn my chiller on after resuming a 9hr 3d carve using our ATC motor. It worked perfectly fine for 3hours without coolant flowing.
The duration will vary with each motor… but knowing that, you should do everything possible to ensure the coolant is flowing.
Note that these are not any sort of fancy pump, they’re simple $20 pond pumps that you can find on amazon or elsewhere.
If you find yourself doing 3d carves often… consider investing in a chiller which has additional electronics, alarms, and durability for longer run times.
Than you for the feed back. Good to know about the Chiller. Most of what I do is 3D Carving usually not this long. This one will probably run for more than 30hours. Its 3/4s complete as I type.
