In need of Wood Storage Ideas

We’re starting to clean up the store and demo/shop area.
The store is pretty simple… just make sure there’s plenty of bins, shelves, labeled products, etc. Super simple to follow there.
The unique thing and purpose of this post is related to the demo/shop area.

I’m thinking it’d be really nice if we take all of this scrap wood we’ve collected over the years either building the fixtures or projects…

and somehow organize it onto a rack that’s easy to walk-up to and grab a piece.

To the left, in-between the garage door and red beam… would be a large project-wood figure to store pieces ready for carving. I’m thinking of wood that if someone comes in and wants to see the Dominator doing a carve, that we can grab a piece from here, measure/design or have pre-made designs ready to go on the controller… secure the stock and start carving.
Has anyone seen something like what i’m after? I’m hoping to get inspired for how to build this figure.

Bonus photo is of the shop/demo area. The scrap wood is currently taking up the spot where our CO2 laser will live (still in the old place till this is cleared out).
The assembly table will be moved more in the middle as a place to gather around when talking to customers or bs’ing.
The dominator sits next to a large pallet rack with a bench devoted to carving reasons… like storing bits and partial projects, etc.
On the other side of this pallet/bench is the HDM and blast cabinet.

Either side of the pallet/bench can be used for production if we need to pump out parts.. and it’s secure enough of an area that we could safely add caution tape on the floor to keep customers clear when in operation.

The red-beam isn’t in this graphic.. but on the store side is a large filament rack that’ll display Push Plastic filament ready for purchase by anyone who comes in.

But… the primary question for this post is asking about wood-storage rack ideas.

@Daniel I would go with something mobile as you could then access all sides if needed, move it if needed for cleaning or other projects. This is not my design (in the picture attached) and I would make a few changes, I could CAD some changes up, but if nothing else maybe this is inspiration. I like the “cubbies” for lack of a better term, which would allow you to store / organize (by type of wood or thickness or length) different boards into groups. As well as provides vertical storage on one end for odd size cut offs. Then the long faces of the racks are at a slight angle allowing sheet goods to be leaned on them. I have another suggestion to full length boards as well, I will need to draw that out.

That’s not a bad idea… especially since if we need it we could build two or even three to sit in this 80" wide space… depending on how far out we want it sticking from the wall.

If you want something off the shelf consider a couple of these. Priced affordably, already have the casters, they work pretty good for full length material, not so much for shorts unless you add shelves. I also use these for tools and hardware by making my own shelves. Just like any lumber storage system you can overload them and make it difficult to grab a piece. An occasional purging helps that!

I run a vertical plywood storage rack that swings out (the whole thing is on wheels) from an existing shelf setup. it’s about 1.5ft deep so holds alot. But 9ft tall, so full sheets slide into it. Works well but you need to make sure it’s relatively full or you can get some bow in sheets if they aren’t supported over time.

I have various lumber racks above everything to hold unmilled longer lumber, but of course you need a ladder for those. Anything under 6ft is on mobile carts similar to what is linked above or on wire shelves and sorted.

Maximize your wall space and vertical height for less commonly used things.
