Looking for shared experiences and suggestions for spindle and VFD settings in Sienci Lab’s recent G-Sender 1.5 release. I have the Longmill MK2 48x30 with the Super Long Board. Running a 220KW spindle/VFD setup (2.2 KW G-Penny spindle with a PWNCNC VFD). 1.5 default metrics are in mm and I have inches selected for the Carve Screen units. Issues I’m having…Default settings for Normal XY movement are sometimes not being retained at bootup so the Normal movement sometimes is inoperable because it resets to XY - 0.008mm, Z - 0.003mm, Speed 4.65mm (default is XY - 5mm, Z - 2mm, Speed 3000mm). Sometimes Normal movement functions correctly but displays 3-digit values (display for inches) - XY - .197mm, Z - .079mm and Speed - 118.11mm. Bootup settings (and functional movement) for Rapid and Precise movements seem correct but displays in mm default values (Rapid - XY - 20mm, Z - 10mm, Speed 5000mm and Precise - XY - 0.5mm, Z - 0.1mm, Speed 1000mm). Prior to 1.5 I was using 19200 Baud for both COM3 and Spindle Baud rates. Although 1.5 default is 115500, I got an Error 14 and the machine will not release the error lock when I try to use 115500 for the spindle baud rate. Default spindle is MODVFD. Spindle PWM freq = 1000Hz. Any thoughts or recommendations?
Upgrade gSender to 1.5.1, that fixes the jogging issue. I have the same spindle combo for my AltMill, the issue is not related to it, or the SLB - it’s a bug in 1.5.
I have the PWN 1.5 Air cooled spindle, I purchased last year and just received my Altmill 4x4. I’m setup as best I know how and have movement in X, Y & Z as expected. Now I’m trying to connect and control my spindle. (I can control the spindle manually) My problem is I continue getting Alarm: 14 (Spindle at speed timeout.) I’ve changed all the settings on the VFD; P0.0.03 … P4.1.01 and I’ve changed all the settings in gSender $16=0 …. $476=1. Have you a solution you would like to share? It would be appreciated.
Using gSender 1.5.2
You have to disable the spindle time out all together. For some reason the vfd is not reporting back the speed, though you can control it. I think the default is 11 seconds or something like that. You should set it to zero or disable it.
The pwn instructions call $375 to be = 50. Does that need to be changed to zero?
No, leave $375 as is.
I use the settings page, but the equivalent firmware is below pic. I assume you’re using the PWN spindle:
$340=0
This is the spindle at speed tolerance.
$392=6
This is the spindle on delay.
Those are the same as mine.
I have Spindle 1
$511 = SLB_SPINDLE
SPINDLE 2 and 3 DISABLED
Does the spindle start and the alarm 14? Or does it not spin at all?
And I am sure youve done the hard reset after these changes? Meaning powers off both the VFD and the SLB? I always turn on the VFD first, make sure its on, and them the SLB.
I think it’s working now. The “hard reset” may have been the trick. I don’t know why the two RPM values do not match here.
Thank you for your help Doc. I think the variation in RPM read-out is because gSender does not update both readings when speed adjustments are made from each control.
