First workpiece using my new PwnCNC spindle/VFD

Not much to see because it will need finishing. It is however very sharp and beautifully detailed for my very first PwnCNC spindle/VFD job. American Maple was roughed with 1/4" 2 flute straight edged cutter then finished with ball ended two flute cutter, 0.25mm in diameter and and with an included angle of 9.8°. A few slight machining marks to sand and some slight cleaning up of the model remain. I will finish with a coat of beeswax cream.

My standard sized S3 Shapeoko machine performed flawlessly with the toolpath creation produced by Carveco Maker. The motion control for my Shapeoko 3 was provided by gSender. Machining speed was 10,000 RPM and the feed speed was 1000 mm/minute. Stepdown for the roughing was 1mm and stepover for the roughing was 70%. Stepover for the finishing pass was 40%.

Roughing pass was completed using the auto setting on the VFD. Finishing pass was completed using the manual setting on the VFD. This was done to ensure that all facilities were working as per expectations. The ease with which I was able to get up and running with my PwnCNC Spindle/VFD kit and the outstandingly good dustboot v7 was amazing. This is a combination I would recommend to anyone, especially if you have a 4 year old CNC machine like I do.

This looks really nice.

What’s the overall size of the image and how long did it take to engrave?

Thank you for your kind words. It is 140 x 140 x 50mm in size and the 3D model is carved to a depth of 19mm. The roughing pass occupied 59 minutes and the finishing pass required another 3 hours.
