Chiller Fluid / Coolant

Is it ok to put antifreeze or windshield washer fluid in the chiller? The instructions say distilled or clean water; do not want to mess anything up…

I use antifreeze and distilled water (1:3) and daniel uses straight windshield wiper fluid.

In the chiller, correct??

I don’t have the chiller, but i know peple who do

Just being a mechanic here but antifreeze has additives and anti-corrosive that saves bearings, prevents corrosion, and electrolytic corrosion aside from freeze/boil protection. I don’t think windshield cleaner could check all of those boxes.

There’s also antimicrobial additives, but need to be cautious if little ones or 4 legs are nearby as it’s also poisonous

Does it matter if you use windshield washer fluid and then switch to an antifreeze mix later? Any special procedure for that?

I would flush it out with distilled water since your going to use distilled water to dilute it anyways.

Using RV antifreeze is safe on plastic components (it’s designed for winterizing RV plumbing with tubing similar to what is found in pumps and chillers) and it also has antimicrobial additives. I’ve left it for up to a year in both pump and chillers with no slime buildup.
