Hello all,
I decided to give this forum a try, based on recommendation from @Aiph5u. I’m coming over from the Onefinity forum. I feel like a forum with a wider scope of CNC machines may be a good fresh start. I hope to offer helpful suggestions and probably learn a few things. My machine is a very custom Onefinity 12" x 12" machine with a Centroid Acorn controller. My machine is so far removed from a stock Onefinity machine that there’s just not much I can offer in the Onefinity forum.
Welcome @Machinist
Care to share when kind of projects you use your CNC for?
Welcome.
I always admired the acorn controller as a small lightweight but still capable controller.
Welcome again
Eriz, I use it for various projects. I make address & lot number signs for the new manufactured home community we live in, as well as other misc projects. I am also a manufacturing partner with Xometry, although I haven’t done anything for them in over a year now. I mostly like working with plastics & composites. Very little wood work, as my shop is a micro shop with no room for the normal equipment & dust collection required for woodwork. Here’s an overview of my work:
Chris, I really am quite fond of the Acorn controller, and find that it works extremely well, with all the features I require.
Prescott???.. I’ve been wanting to head north for lunch since my plans for going to Florida for a week or 2 fell thru. Give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. Give him a motorcycle he’ll eat lunch 300 miles away
I’m in Sierra Vista, it’s 100 miles to go from here to tombstone to bisbee and back or vice versa.
Welcome. This is a great place to be. You have made a good decision. ![]()
Thanks for sharing @Machinist! I’m working with wood almost exclusively. I did do one project in brass that turned out very well, and I’ve got another brass project in the queue. I think I’ll do some plastic signs eventually.

Wow, you’re WAY south! We were in north Phoenix for a couple of years after moving from Michigan, but decided we liked the Prescott / Prescott Valley area better.
Yes, I believe so. The Onefinity was just too narrow in scope for my liking. It served its purpose when I was a Onefinity noob, but anymore there’s not much I can assist with there, primarily because I’m not running a Masso or Buildbotics controller. I have nothing of value to add, and cannot expect any support specific to my machine.
My dad was an amazing woodworker, but I didn’t inherit that gene, lol. But I really do enjoy what I do on the machine. Plastic signs are pretty nice and the Colorcore (2-color HDPE) material is amazing to work with. I would be glad to give you any tips when working with it, should you decide to use that material.
welcome @Machinist you are most definitely encouraged to stick around here.
We (general intention of this forum, but also the people starting to interact more) work on a variety of projects that run the breadth of the maker community.
One day i’ll be working on electronics, next i’m anodizing aluminum, next i’m 3d printing a 6ft tall 500kiloton bomb replica.
If it involves making… i will be posting about it in this forum and most definitely encourage everyone to do the same.
We try to encourage makers to keep making no matter what they like to work on.
I’m hoping we can draw a good enough crowd of folks who love talking about a wide array of maker topics. Some folks will be very wide in their scope like me, but others will be very narrow in theirs… but all are welcome and encouraged to post about problems, solutions, projects, anything maker related.
Thank you for joining us!
