What is the best orientation to 3d print Dust Boot v3? In Bambu studio everything I try gives me a floating cantilever warning. Is there an orientation to print it without supports?
we print our dust boots with as few supports as possible. Therefore the orientation the boot sits on the machine is how it should be printed.
For v3 you’ll need supports internally to hold the middle up… but be careful… to many and that’ll really complicate the post-print cleanup.
I will give this a try. The supports on those side wings could easily be eliminated by extending them down to the bottom edge.
Very nice… that’s pretty much exactly what I did with the supports. LOVE those tree supports. I designed this boot so it doesn’t require a lot of infill… and typically print them with 4 parameters for strength.
I think with this upright orientation and a few minor modifications you could eliminate the need for any supports. You would also get more parts on the bed for bigger unassisted production runs.
This could work… but would add time to the print IMO.
The layer lines are less important on these main boot parts vs other parts we print/sell.
I do know that some SLA owners have printed it in this orientation with great success… but the demands for FDM are different.
Some of the benefit of the default orientation is to have the parts where the trees touch… being “inside” the part and out of external view when fully assembled.
So even if those “touched” areas are somewhat messy… it won’t affect the external finish of the product.
