I have an AltMill and they are way behind on spindles, so I got a Pwn air cooled spindle that the company said will work with AltMill. So far I cannot get it to work despite having the firmware settings set up according to the (one sheet) of directions from Pwn. When I set it for manual, I can get the spindle top turn with the dial, but I get “ALARM 14” errors nonstop when I try to run it through GSender. I have seen a few others with the same problem and hoping to get some thoughts/help. Not much response from the company (other than repeatedly sending me links to their firmware sheet).

If you have the altmill, you have the slb-ext. Did you set up gsender appropriately?

Yes, I have rechecked all the settings a few times. Nothing but a constant Alarm 14 message.

Alarm 14 means there’s a miscommunication. It means a programming error on either the vfd or gsender, or a hardware error with the wires/connections. We’re going to be grasping at straws trying to figure out what the problem is.
Could try switching the red/black wire for the modbus, also are you plugged into the modbus port and not the run port, have you tried switching it?

I tried switching the wires, no change. I am plugged into the modbus port. I agree about the grasping at straws. I have rechecked the settings 10 times and everything matches.

It’s happened at least 1 time before, but have you tried the run port?

Did you find a solution for this? In order to make this work, I had to set $340 to either 0 or above 91% - which means I’m not sure the 2 way communication is working at all.

I had to travel today and tomorrow, but will try when I get back. Thanks for the suggestion!

Well crap. I was hoping you had a solution. I have a feeling setting this so high, or disabling it all together will mean the controller cannot detect when the spindle didn’t start, so it has the potential to ruin a job. I opened a ticket with PWN Support, we’ll see what they say.

The recommendation at this point is to disable the setting all together. I’ve discussed this late last year with Sienci and that was the conclusion we came up with.
There is an issue with the software communicating properly with the VFD. They have yet to address it if i’m remembering correctly.
