Working on an app called “Gantry” it is a full suite CNC reference tool. I’m building in a detailed feed/speed calculator that dives deep into material choices, type of bit, type of operation and even takes into account the machine you might have and its rigidity factor.
There is a detailed maintenance schedule with tracking durations since last marked as complete.
There is also a full materials library with janka hardness, a troubleshooting section for things like rough bottom surface, chatter, material shifting etc. It steps through work holding and list the pros and cons of them and much much more
I hope to post a little demo video later today, but I would like to throw out to the group, what other features would you like to see? What would bring value to you and your work process?
Depending on your target demo, but maybe some sort of before the cut checklist. idc woodcraft has a good one but it would be nice to have an all in one source if that’s what youre going for.
When doing the feeds and speeds, i prefer to put them all at 18k, just out of force of habit, so maybe a slider bar so you can adjust the feed or speed to your liking while maintaining the chipload
These are great adds, I’m working on implementing them now. I’m trying to build in logic so that within the app you are defining you machine in the settings area and that info will directly impact / automatically retool the pre-cut list of checks… i.e. if you are set up with a water cooled spindle, an item on the check list is “is water cooler on”, if you have an air cooled spindle that is not present, and other things like that.. I.e. trim router that is not controlled etc.
Thank you so much for the feedback, I will post a screen shot or two once I have that implemented for review.
Screen recording of the app so far. I think it is coming along pretty nicely. Integreated your ideas and customized it so it is tied to the machine you are using i.e. it adds checking if the water cool system is running to the checklist (if you have a water cooled spindle) etc. It is not in this video, but I have it working so that if you tap on the rpm’s in the calculator, you can select whatever value you want and lock it per your suggestion.
Look forward to peoples feedback, thanks for taking a look
Looks awesome. Small thing… the materials menu uses low medium high… how about soft medium hard, assuming red oak is the bench mark for the definition of medium.
Nice catch, those tags were “tear out risk” tags, but because they were right next to the janka values it was confusing.. When you are in a “Material detail view” it is more clear and I think helpful to define tear out, so to fix I had to set up a whole new array to manage ranges of hardness, but also preserve a separate set of values for tear out. The example is baltic birch ply had the tag of “high” which didn’t really mean hard as it has a hardness value of 800, it meant high likelihood of tear out..
This was a really good catch, thank you! These types of little refinements make a big difference. Do you have any iOS devices? iPad especially?
